It means that the dentist removes the tooth pulp (the nerve and the blood vessels).
The procedure is usually performed in two sessions. In case of bad inflammation the treatment might last several months.
Sometimes the root canal treatment is not successful. In such cases the dental surgery is necessary in order to either remove the sick part of the root or to pull out the tooth.
